Leo and the Lunar Tikis

Last night I went to the Tropa Bar, conveniently opposite the Monk to see one of my favourite bands. They were on top form and included a great cover of Purple Haze.

Naughty

Saw this last Sunday afternoon. turns out it's an occasional gay club. It seemed to have petered out by the time we saw it.

It's a reminder of just how many 'Brussels' there are as there are so many different groups, social circles and lifestyles in this small city.

Some I know about, some I'm involved in and some I bump into randomly.

Leo and the Lunar Tikis

Went along to see this fun band playing at an Upfront cocktail night. I't been a long while since I've seen a decent 'local band', having spent my youth listening to an endless stream of untalented dirge.

The Lunar Tikis have a few good things going for them. first of all, they're fun, they enjoy playing and show it. Secondly they have some good songs and mix in a few 60's classics, but they perform them with a vim and vigour that seperates them from a lounge band.

They're also nice people. That helps, so I hope people will check them out.

Halloween Hannibal

Good to see the hardworking staff of O'Reilley's getting into the spirit of things.

Or at least I think they were

Cheers!

I've just started working for a Brussels free magazine, Upfront, which covers Brussels nightlife and so on. As you would expect, I am woefully underpaid, but it gives me a chance to get out and about as well as having my ego flattered by having someone actually publish my pics.

The next issue should be out today, with my first ever cover shot.

Libertad

This is a poster in the Havana Bar, where I was taking photos for Upfront. We got there by the big lift near the Palace de Justice, surely the best way to travel.

Inside the bar is very lively and done in Cuban crossed with bare brick style.

Comocomo

Off to Comocomo, a Basque tapas type place, for a slap up meal. And to take photos for a local magazine, Upfront, had offered a free meal for 20 winners of a competition and it was a great night out, I met some interesting people and took some half-decent pictures for the mag.

Oh, and the food was great.

Cheers!

Last night I went to the opening night party for a new club, Indigo, which mixes art and music.

We were entertained by a fantastic band, 15:15 and drank champagne until my photos started getting blurry.

Great fun.

You Gay Tea Dance

In Amsterdam, no lampost can be found without a bicycle attached to in, in Brussels it's promo stickers. Some of these are obscure and some are excellent examples of graphic design.

Anyway, after yesterday's post about the Catholic church, why not pop along to the Tea Dance after Mass? It's on from 7pm till 2am. More information over here.

I'm showing my age here, but what is a tea dance these days? I'm pretty sure it's not a slow waltz amongst the silverware and doillies.
