Taking the roof off

The Demolition of the Aspach centre carries on and here the roof is coming off the De Brockere metro entrance. Later a temporary roof was put up in record time. I wonder how they're going to take away the walkway to the Monnaie Centre?

The hollow Anspach

It seems that the builders have almost finished demolishing the Anspach Centre, leaving just the facades, lest the sheer beauty and majesty of the Monnaie Centre be disfigured.

The Anspach Centre

There's not much left of it now. It's interesting to note how Brussels is changing and a some of us are using Flickr to document the demolition and rebuilding of the Anspach Centre.

I'm glad that they're keeping the old facade and demolished the god awful 50's extension. The really sad thing is that the Place de la Monnaie is dominated by one of the most hideous buildings I've ever seen.

I think there should be another group for the various work being done around Brussels as we've got an opportunity to document changing Brussels like never before.

Inside the Anspach Centre

I managed to find a large gap in the fence around the Anspach Centre and get inside. I spent a couple of hours wandering around taking photos. There was no security at all.

This is on the top floor, looking de Broukere. It looks like they're trying to keep the old facade and the floors seem to be there, although one set of stairs has been replaced by steel grids and steps.

The grafitti artists have begun to move in and are redecorating, though not too many, I only found a half dozen or so tags inside the building.

Anspach Center going down

City ruins

People talked about it for years, but the last few weeks it really happened. The Anspach Center in the city center is being demolished (well, not totally, the walls are staying) to make room for a new Anspach Center, to be the home of the Brussels Casino apparently.

There is a flickr group documenting the changes in photos: Anspach Center.
