Madonna and Child

I was calling round to see a friend when I saw this little statue. One of the unusual things, for me, about living in Belgium is the influence of the Catholic church on everyday life. For example almost every shop is closed on Sunday.

There are also quite a few roadside shrines knocking about and statues of Mary abound. Sadly many of them do seem rather generic, but this one has some individuality and captures expression and feeling.

Thanx for your great photo blog! I've never been to Brussels, let alone Europe, but I'll get there one day [hoping to get to Greece later this year...?!] I found this place thru Zoe's blog so - blame her! heh heh
